Principal's News

Kylie Millar, Principal

Dear Families,

What another fabulous term we have had at St Patrick’s School. Our students have worked incredibly hard this term and it has been wonderful to see the positive progress they are making in many areas of their learning.

Last week our students represented St Patrick’s School at the Mitchell State School combined athletics day. I was impressed with the number of students who attended the day and showed their team spirit by supporting and cheering on their peers. Congratulations to Hallie Page and Keelie Moody who have both been nominated to attend the Roma & District Athletics Day in July. Hallie has been nominated to compete in shot put and Keelie has been nominated for the 100m and 200m running events. Well done girls, you should both be very proud of your achievements.

State of Origin Pizza Night

Thank you to our parents who are working hard behind the scenes to prepare for our State of Origin pizza night fundraiser. Thank you to our families and community members who have placed a pizza order and supported our school fundraising event.

Good Luck Mrs Silvester

The time has finally arrived for us to farewell Mrs Silvester for the next 12 months. It has been an absolute pleasure having you back at St Patrick's. Our students have had a wonderful semester with you and have achieved many great things during this time. We wish you all the very best for the safe arrival of your new baby girl and we can't wait to meet her.

Welcome Mrs Cassidy

On Wednesday students in our 3-6 class met their new teacher via a Teams meeting. This was a great chance for students to meet their new teacher and introduce themselves to Mrs Cassidy. They were able to learn a little about Mrs Cassidy and get to know her a little before she begins next term. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Cassidy to our St Patrick's family in the coming weeks.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our families and staff members who have been helping our school this term. We have had parents and staff assist with collecting cans/bottles from our local collection points, sorting cans/bottles, mowing lawns, whipper snipping, volunteering for fundraising events such as pizza night, Friday night raffles, tuckshop and camp oven dinners, just to name a few. Many hands make light work, and it is definitely greatly appreciated to have support from our families to assist with making our school a great place for our students, your children.

I wish you all a happy, safe and restful holiday and I look forward to seeing you all next term.

Warm regards,

Kylie

Student Protection

At St Patrick’s School the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All children should grow up free of violence or exploitation and be able to learn in a safe and supported environment. Schools have a number of specific child protection reporting obligations that are detailed in our Student Protection Processes and Guidelines.

If a student wants to talk to someone about harm, abuse or inappropriate behaviour toward themselves or others, they can speak to a trusted staff member or one of our School Student Protection Contacts (SSPCs).  The SSPCs receive additional training and are identified in the student protection posters displayed around the school.

Felicity Ray, Jenny Bye and Kylie Millar are the Student Protection Contacts for St Patrick's School.

Summary documents have been developed for parents and caregivers about our student protection obligations and our broader strategy for maintaining safe school environments.

Further information on all of the above topics can be found on the Toowoomba Catholic Schools website at https://www.twb.catholic.edu.au/parents-and-community/student-protection/

Class News : Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

       Gemma Donaldson

The 3-6 students had the pleasure of being visited by lead teachers to progress their knowledge and skills within The Arts curriculum.  The students were taught visual arts skills such as creating horizons, foregrounds and backgrounds, and shading objects to create shadows.  Students also participated in workshops focusing on choral skills and performances.  They had great fun performing choral poetry, using various actions, voices and facial expressions.  The 3-6 students were so impressive to watch in the short time they spent rehearsing this.

The 3-6 students have been preparing all term for the Mitchell Combined Schools Athletics Carnival.  They have been practicing and refining their skills in running, relay races, shot put, discus and long jump.  Their discus, in particular, has been extremely impressive.  This is a hard and skilful event to master and many of our students now look like mini Olympians!

Our 3-6 drama unit culminated with the students working collaboratively to perform an improvised scene from the story ‘Matilda’.  Students performed these improvised scenes for the P-2 students who thoroughly enjoyed them.  This year the students have shown great growth in the area of drama.  Not only has their confidence grown but they can stay in character and change their voice and body language to portray various characters and emotions.  It has been an absolute pleasure watching them develop these skills over the course of the term.

                             Mrs Anne-Maree Spalding with students

I wish you all a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing your bright happy children return in Term 3 😊

Class News: Prep to Year 2

        Gemma Donaldson

Wow, the last half of the term has truly flown by!  The P – 2 students have worked marvellously in the Drama and PE space over the past few weeks.  The students have eagerly practised their ball games in preparation for the Mitchell Combined Schools Athletics Carnival.  They have shown great improvement over the course of the term in their understanding of how these games are played and the physical skills required to execute them.  It has been lovely to watch the students become more involved and work positively together as a team.

In week 9, students had the pleasure of being visited by several lead teachers from Toowoomba to broaden their knowledge and skills in The Arts learning space.  The P-2 students practised creating a number of different insects using various shapes and line pressures.  They all thoroughly enjoyed this activity and were able to create insects with different personalities by choosing various eye and mouth shapes.

Arts Visit from Mr Jim Midgley and Mrs Anne-Maree Spalding

The P-2 students completed their drama assessment last week and were required to perform an improvised scene from the story ‘The Jungle Book’.  It was delightful to see the students take on the movements, facial expression and voice of Shere Kahn as he threatened Mowgli and the wolves at the water hole.  Their confidence and willingness to step out of their comfort zone to take on different characters has progressed significantly and it has been wonderful to see all students enjoying and engaging in these lessons.

I wish you all a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing your bright happy children return in Term 3 😊
